full tang

A full tang sword is a type of sword in which the blade and handle are made from a single piece of metal, with the handle material (such as wood, bone, or other material) fitted over the tang (the portion of the blade that extends into the handle). A full tang construction is generally considered to be stronger and more durable than a partial tang or hidden tang construction, in which the blade and handle are only attached by pins or other fasteners. Full tang swords are often preferred by collectors and enthusiasts because they are considered to be more structurally sound and less likely to break or come apart under heavy use.
